Auto Dump Valves

Since we live full time in our RV and do not travel with it we make changes every now and then to make our lives more comfortable.

Arthritis had become such a problem that it is sometimes difficult to manage the task of dumping our holding tanks so we researched our options and came up with the idea of installing electric valve gates.

Following is a breakdown of the parts needed and how we installed them.

Since the Auto Drain wires were too short we bought 25 foot of flat trailer wire to splice into the valve control wires. We soldered the wires and used heat shrink for protection.

We chose to use an AC power supply rather than connect to the RV battery as the location we wanted to install the switches was very close to an AC outlet.

We replaced the valves even though they were working fine. The old valves were over 8 years old so it seemed a good idea to go ahead and replace them.

The gray water valve stays open unless we are dumping the black water tank. The valve switches have indicator lights that flash bright red whenever the valve is open so we placed electrical tape over the gray water valve switch to defuse the brightness.

In order to monitor the dump system we placed an old webcam under our slide-out using hot glue and fed the USB cable thru a void where the slide-out floor meets the main floor. We use a laptop to check the progress of the dumping.
